Dating in part from 1485, Athelhampton House is a very pleasant English country house and gardens close to Dorchester. Owned by the Martyn family for five generations, it is currently owned by the Cooke family, who have preserved it for future generations.

The gardens are rather lovely, particularly on a sunny day, with plenty of variety to explore.

The house was an interesting mix of periods, from the original Great Hall, through to more modern rooms.

The artist Marevna lived there for a number of years, and a collection of her pretty good if unoriginal paintings can be found on the top floor.
