Córdoba

Heart of the Moorish empire for hundreds of years, and one of the largest cities in the world in the ninth and tenth centuries, Córdoba is home to some of the most stunning places in a history packed region.

Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos
Home to some of the most beautiful gardens I’ve visited in Spain.

Mezquita
Famous for the red and white arches, and for having a Catholic cathedral inserted into the middle of it (later regretted by Charles V). It’s a huge place and fascinating to explore.

Medina Azahar
A completely unexpected delight, the extensive remains of an tenth century Moorish palace, which would have been hugely impressive at the time, and remains so today.

Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico de Córdoba
Relatively small but comprehensive and nicely presented museum well worth exploring.

Almodovar del Rio Castle
Perched as castles usually are on top of a hill, with great views, and a good place for some train spotting!
