A classic English seaside town, Swanage is a popular spot on the Dorset coast. It’s home to a reasonable sandy beach and some rather nice heritage buildings, some of which were relocated from London in Victorian times.
A rather pleasant walk is from the beach, past the fishing boat area, to Peveril Point, with views back toward the town.
Also along here is the rather flash lifeboat rescue base.
Within town are a number of heritage buildings, and the end point for the Swanage Railway, which run steam trains there from Norden.
Close by is Studland Bay, a 4 mile sweeping expanse of beach, with the broken headland of Old Harry Rocks at one end, and Poole visible in the distance the other way.
I stayed in Langton Matravers, about ten minutes up the road from Swanage, and a good spot for running along the impressive coastline, and exploring the Dancing Ledge.
