In the last couple of months before I left Timor-Leste in February 2025, I set myself the challenge of walking around every neighbourhood in the capital Dili. This was a wonderful way to explore the city, and get some exercise during the wet season. This post covers walks around Manleuana, which contains nine aldeias (hamlets), and Comoro, which contains 14 aldeias. A separate post covers the Tasi Tolu area in the western part of Comoro and Madohi to the north.
To start at the extensive Manleuana markets, some of the largest in Timor-Leste, though I visited first thing in the morning before they had really got going. There are huge clothes markets, and lots of plants for sale.

On a small hill close by is Manleuana Cemetery.

Comoro was full of things of interest, with many religious schools, including Maria Auxiliadora Primary School.

Igreja de Maria Auxiliadora was a large and attractive church.

Don Bosco Training Centre had an interesting mural.

Escola Paroquial de São Pedro Comoro included a cardboard Pope Francis.

There was some good street art on the walls of Ba Futuru.

And plenty more on the streets around the religious schools.

Walking in south Manleuana included plenty abandoned cars, mainly taxis.

Uma Formasaun SVD is a religious school.

There was a large Japanese funded reservoir, built in 2012.

I found a small chapel and a few other sights around the streets.

I walked in a loop from Lisbutak Chapel.

The Beduku aldeia is actually in Liquiçá, but is only accessible via Dili, and is just across the banks of the Comoro river from Manleuana, so I’ve included it here. This is a popular place for quarrying, both from the hillsides and the river bed itself.

There was a cemetery with an unusual two story tombstone.

And a few other sights of interest.

Another walk took me past a couple more shrines.

Street art including some informative information on recycling.

Colourful and decorated buses and trucks.

Bird cages, a nativity scene, and giant jack fruit I think.
