Writers Festival, May – long weekend of authors from around the world, always something interesting / thought-provoking
Architecture Film Festival, May / June – if architecture / urban design is of interest then the Rialto is the place to be
Documentary Edge Film Festival, late May / early June – good selection of documentaries from around the world, some pretty eclectic!
NZ Film Festival, late July / early August – highlight of the winter, three weeks of the best new films showing across town including at the magnificent Civic Theatre
Auckland Heritage Festival, October – hundreds of events over three weeks, showing how much history even a young city like Auckland had, most of which are free
