Fulfil a New Year resolution by learning something new. There are some great evening and weekend classes in Auckland. Here’s a few places that might be of interest…
University of Auckland Continuing Education, CBD
Good variety of courses on interesting topics. I’ve enjoyed an Introduction to the Dead Sea Scrolls, Modern Architecture in Berlin, the NZ General Election 2014 and an History of Sicily. Two to six week courses taking up a couple of hours in the evenings after work. Good way to end the day.
Browne School of Art, Great North Road
The best art school I’ve come across, whether a beginner or well practiced there’s something for everyone. They’ve got a good mix of evening and weekend classes, a well equipped selection of art materials, and light soaked studio space.
Studio One, Ponsonby
Formerly ArtStation and housed in one of the most beautiful buildings on Ponsonby Road, Studio One wins point for the most eclectic selection of courses. Ceramic vessels, mould making, or introduction to desert terrariums anyone? Jared runs a great life drawing classes though two nights a week.
Selwyn College, Kohimarama
Not been yet but they also have an interesting range of courses and one off lectures including Fact and Ficton in the Cold War, The Making of the Modern Middle East, and War Crimes, Genocide and Responses.
Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design, Parnell
Not been yet but have some interesting looking short courses on fashion design, sculpture, drawing, photography and painting.
