Further afield – Syria – Palmyra

Looking through my photos of Palmyra makes me feel sad and angry, at the needless destruction man can cause to places that have survived for thousands of years. The photos don’t really convey the scale of the site, the richness of the ruins, or the midday heat of the sun. Coming over a sand dune to see the valley of the tombs was breathtaking, felt like something out of Indiana Jones walking down the valley, the memories are still strong, though sadly they will remain only memories.
