Had some unexpected spare time after leaving Welcome Rock earlier than planned, so took a more leisurely drive back to Queenstown, following the beautiful Lake Wakatipu.
Took a quick look around Kingston, by 3pm already clocked in darkness thanks to the nearby mountains. Home to the second smallest library I’ve seen (after Great Barrier Island), the Kingston Flyer steam railway line, quirky houses, and a rather nice beach at the end of the lake.
All along the road back to Queenstown are numerous lookouts, many of which I stopped at for views of the lake.
The best two were an unexpected autumnal parkland and the start of the Drift Bay walking track.
