The west coast is a very special part of Auckland, with epic black volcanic sand beaches, huge waves, and dramatic cliffs. Amazingly all of this is only 45 mins drive from Auckland CBD…dsc05038 dsc05049 dsc05068 dsc05077 dsc05082 dsc05085-wigmore-bay-and-bethells-beach dsc05109

Whatipu, Karekare, Piha and the others are all special in their own way, but none have one of these, a huge inland sand dune, surrounded by temperate rain forest and a lake.dsc05130 dsc05160 dsc05181 dsc05185 dsc05189 dsc05206

Bethell’s Beach is also the start of one end of the Te Henga walkway, a 16km coastal walk which offers spectacular views and a serious workout for the legs.dsc07287 dsc07301 dsc07300 dsc07303 dsc07283 dsc07292 dsc07311
