Brussels

Brussels may not have a great reputation but I rather enjoyed it when I visited a dozen years ago, particularly for it’s wonderful architecture and some great museums. There are some beautifully ornate buildings in the city.

These formal gardens were rather lovely.

Manneken Pis is a famous icon of the city. In the GardeRobe MannekenPis there are over 1,000 costumes that he’s worn over the years.

I don’t have many photos (I took a lot less those days) of the museums I visited but do remember enjoying the Musical Instrument Museum (housed in this stunning 1899 Art Nouveau building, formerly the Old England department store), the wonderful Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium which had some memorable Bruegels and Magrittes, and the Musée Hergé covering the creator of Tintin.
