The second largest art gallery in the country after Te Papa in Wellington, Auckland Art Gallery is always an interesting place to visit. They rotate the exhibitions frequently so there’s something new to see most months.

Originally opened in 1887, an internationally award winning major extension was completed in 2011, creating a striking new entrance, particularly when seen walking up the steps from Khartoum Place. The Kauri wood canopy is quite beautiful.

I’ve visited regularly since the extension opened, here are some of my favourite pieces from the many exhibitions seen.
