The oldest and second largest (after Hyde Hall) garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society, Wisley is heaven for garden lovers. It is extremely popular, with only the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew attracting more visitors, over 1.2m people a year. The site covers 240 acres though so it is relatively easy to escape the crowds and enjoy its varied botanic delights.
Close to the entrance is the Grade II heritage listed Laboratory dating from 1907, with the Jellicoe Canal in front offering reflections.
The Rock Garden is one of the oldest and most attractive parts of the gardens.
Along with the Trials Field filled with wild flowers when I visited in July 2023.
Next to it is the always colourful Mixed Borders.
Battleston Hill is crowned with an impressive horse head statue.
Below which a new lake area is under development.
The Exotic Garden and Cottage Garden are nicely laid out.
RHS Hilltop is the UK’s first dedicated horticultural scientific centre of excellence, an impressive building opened in 2021. There are good views from the roof.
Behind RHS Hilltop is the World Food Garden.
On the other side is a wild area designed to attract and provide homes for insects.
Open in 2007 the Glasshouse is the size of ten tennis courts and filled with exotic plants.
Outside is a sizeable statue of dancing hares.
To finish with various other photos from around the huge site.
