About twenty minutes drive downhill from Atsabe is the village of Tiarlelo. This was one of my favourite places I’d visited in Timor-Leste to this point. It was a peaceful, friendly, and beautifully located place, surrounded by mountains.

This is well off the tourist path. I was there supporting the local NGO HAMNASA with their community engagement activities, taking photos and making videos.

At lunchtime I took a short walk around the village. They appeared relatively well off compared to other villages I’ve visited. They farm rice and grow coffee.

As usual the church was up on the hillside.

It had a pretty impressive cemetery for a small place.

I’ve seen this design of house all around Timor-Leste. They’ve been designed for people over 60, with who gets one agreed by the suco, the local community body.

To finish with more of the wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.
