Hike opposite the Bamboo Institute in Tibar

For the detailed route and logistical information please select this hike below (click top left for the list of hikes).

A short but steep hike up into the empty (and pathless!) hills opposite the Bamboo Institute in Tibar, for wonderful views and a decent workout.

To get to the start catch a tom-tom for 50c from Tasi Tolu to Tibar. They work the same as microlets, just tap your coin on the metal frame when you want to stop.

Start by crossing the usually dry river across the road from the Bamboo Institute.

Head directly up the hillside toward some graves in various states of construction, and you’re soon rewarded with lovely views of the landscape.

The views improve as you head up higher.

On the way up are some impressive crosses, and more views across the hills of Liquiçá, the neighbouring municipality to Dili.

A short concrete post marks the highest point of the hill and time to descend.

There are more good views on the return down hill, along with some evidence of the marker paint that my friend used to try and mark the path. Unfortunately Eucalyptus trees have a tendency to shed their bark…

The way returns to the dry river, though given that it can flood this seemed a somewhat risky place to build a huge house…
