Redilaran is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Dili region, filled with shade and things of interest. This 8km figure of eight hike goes from Santa Cruz Cemetery up into the hills toward Dare, with great views back over the city below.
Walking up from Santa Cruz Cemetery the valley was beautifully lit by the rising sun.

A small entrance in the hillside led into a longer than expected tunnel built during WW2 by the Japanese (probably using Timorese workers). It was very humid and warm inside, with the end room now used as a small shrine.

The route continued onto the first of many easy crossings of the river flowing down the valley.

There are settlements everywhere in the valley, which meant a lot of dogs!

Most of the route was in welcome shade but the sunshine was worth bearing for a while to enjoy views like this.

It was back downhill from here, through a section of huge bamboo.

There were impressive bee hives in the trees above.

It was an atmospheric place to walk around.

Here they had built impressive aquaculture ponds, filled with fish.

Abandoned cars seem to be common!

There was a final stretch along the river before returning to Santa Cruz Cemetery.
