A lovely loop walk in the cooler climate of Aileu through quiet and atmospheric bush.

It starts from the village of Cotolau 2, close to Balibar, home to the impressive Saint John Paul II Church. I stopped here for some drone shots as the morning sun lit up Dili far below.

I also stopped at this unusual open air chapel.

Behind which were views of Cristo Rei and Atauro Island in the distance.

I parked my bike close to the football field, and took a quick look at this church.

The walk started on paved road with views of the lush landscape.

Before becoming a dirt road with similar views.

Then a path…

Then a rough track through thick bush.

After crossing a small stream I headed uphill but starting a dogleg detour toward another stream below. It was going be a decent effort to head down to it and back up, so I used my drone instead to check out what was down there.

It was then back uphill through the lovely bush.

It was beautifully quiet and had more shade than many Timor walks.

Before returning full circle to Cotolau 2.
