A short but relatively challenging hike in Oé-Cusse up to the bit of a non-event Maombelon Waterfall, but there is attractive scenery along the way. International visitors need to pay $2 to the local community before starting the walk. It is quite an scenic walk, though particularly if done during the wet season, you need to be confident on wet, slippery rocks and surfaces. Although there are a number of concrete steps, these can be incredibly slippery, so take care! A local guide is highly recommended, Nato on +670 7539 4952 can help organise one.
Before starting I took the drone up to get an idea of the surrounding landscape.

The track starts at the end of the village, about 30 minutes walk south from central Pante Macassar and immediately was almost overwhelmingly green, as I walked it in January, in the middle of the wet season.

It was quite stunningly lush, with corn growing and the hills were almost unrecognisable from when I visited in the dry season.

Some shade was welcome though, walking through banana plants and bush.

The pipe marks the start of the river system section, which was significantly more challenging.

They have installed concrete steps and paths through the canyon, but they were incredibly slippery.

There was such an array of pipes and concrete infrastructure.

The Maombelon Waterfall itself was underwhelming. I returned carefully the way I came.
