The last large freshwater wetland in Christchurch, Travis Wetlands is an important habitat for native plants and birds, and a wonderful place for an easy walk. I visited on a crisp winter’s day, and enjoyed the views, wildlife, and quiet. The car park off Beach Road is by the most open section of the 116 hectare wetland, offering lovely views from the start.

There was a well set up and located bird hide.

It was a beautiful day for a walk.

There was plenty of birdlife.

And lovely views across the water.

There is a 3.5km loop walk around the wetlands, which includes a lookout tower.

These plant tunnels were pretty cool, and there were plenty of Pukeko around.

Final views before returning to the car park after a very pleasant hour in the wetlands.
