After a busy year sketching in 2014 I lost my mojo a bit, possibly due to a lack of inspiration as most of my travels were tramping / hiking trips, and sketching landscapes with pen I find harder than urban environments. From 71 sketches in 2014 I dropped to 21 in 2015, and only 12 in 2016. Here are some of the ones I was happier with, though a number were drawn from my photographs rather than live, something well suited to long (low turbulence) flights. I also started to run MeetUp urban sketching events, which was a great way of encouraging more people to sketch (would get up to a dozen people attending on a fortnightly to monthly basis), and to meet new people, though tended not to result in very good sketches personally, too busy talking / helping others.
This will be familiar to everyone though a very average sketch done from one of my photographs, as was the better Ophir Telegram Office on the South Island of New Zealand.
Drawn on location, a former jail cell on Rotoroa Island, and a detail of Auckland Art Gallery.
Four from my travels in South America, the Las Torres Hotel and campsite bathroom block in Torres Del Paine National Park, Chile, and a building in Ushuaia, Argentina, and La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires.
Final sketch from travels to Ushguli, Georgia, evocative of the place if not great technically.
