One of the last surviving ships from WW2, HMS Belfast is a fascinating piece of history moored on the River Thames near Tower Bridge, it’s easy to spend several hours here exploring the labyrinth like ship with the aid of an informative audio guide.

The ship is an impressively complicated machine, launched just before the start of WW2 and saw action in the North Atlantic, Arctic, the Pacific, and Korean War.

It’s an often claustrophobic place, particularly when you head down ladders into the engine rooms.

As a bonus the deck of the ship was a wonderful place to watch the sunset over the Thames and The City.
