My second hike with the Dili Saturday Walkers Facebook group took me up a lovely valley about twenty minutes drive west of central Dili.
The start of the walk felt like a building site as river gravel is shoveled by hand through wire frames to sift sand used in construction.

There were many river crossings in this walk in the wet season, so it is best to wear shoes that can be easily removed or wear sports sandels.

The valley ahead looked good in the early morning light.

I don’t know what this rather sizeable building was for but it was nicely framed against the landscape.

There were some narrow sections to navigate heading up the valley, which can be skipped by crossing the river but the current is pretty strong in places so care needs to be taken.

Other sections were on easier ground.

As usual for Timor-Leste there were goats around.

There were a few small settlements along the way.

This local had a reasonable walk to sell his bananas in town.

In 2011 Japanese aid money improved the water supply system in this area with the building of this infrastructure.

After this we crossed over the river and headed up through a short section of bush before reaching as far as is possible to safely progress up the river system.

This made for a good spot for a picnic before returning back the way we came.
