Explore the hills and beaches of Hera on this loop walk. It offers a mixture of challenging ascents and descents on rough terrain, and easy ridge and beach walking. You’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Hera coastline, and later in the hike views inland toward the urban part of Hera. Finish with a relaxing walk along the beautiful beach between Ponta Séri Tútun and Ponta Fatomano.

Before starting to hike from Ponta Fatomano I took the drone up as the sun just started to appear over the Hera hills. It was a good way to try and figure out the best route to take, as this is a hike I developed using Google Earth to try and find potential routes.

I parked my motorbike and started to head up the hill, though it was a challenge in the first place just getting onto the hill, as there were extensive cut backs for the road.

It was a hot and steep climb up, with no obvious paths, though these white fence poles were helpful to follow.

I got probably three quarters of the way up to the main ridge before it started to get too steep and overgrown to continue, so I headed along a rough and overgrown route that ran parallel.

This turned into a nice easy and wide dirt road, from where I started to get good views of urban Hera inland.

There is something going on here, with a large tank in the middle of a flattened area, and at the end of the ridge was this unexpected smart paving to a construction site.

This end to the ridge gave good views in all directions.

I then had to get back down to the road, which wasn’t quite as difficult as expected, but did involve some route finding, ducking under barbed wire fencing, and a tricky final descent to the road.

From Ponta Séri Tútun I got good views in both directions.

Before an enjoyable easy and peaceful walk along the beach, past a couple of buildings of unknown use.

Finding my way back to Ponta Fatomano off the beach was a final challenge, through this maze of scrappy bush.
