An enjoyable 8km hike around Becora in east Dili, mainly spent on the hills surrounding the area, with huge views and interesting rural village life so close to the capital.

I started across the dry river bed close to Sub Power Plant Becora, and headed up into the hills. It was already super hot even before 7am but scenic as the sun started to light up the landscape.

I found yet another chapel, Capela São Cristóvão Ailele Hun, to add to Google Maps. I’ve added hundreds of places during my time in Timor-Leste.

This was pretty impressive pile of animal bones!

From here it was much easier, and generally flatter, walking along dirt roads, which allowed me to more easily enjoy the views. These were across toward Hera, to the east of Dili.

I’ve driven up this road on motorbike, this is a good section!

I descended down to the saddle of Becora Hill, between Becora and Hera.

I crossed over the busy sealed main road to continue along quiet dirt roads.

First stopping at Capela Sao Jose Operario.

Continuing along there were magnificent views, and more refreshingly some shade!

There are quite a lot of houses along here, of varying size and quality, along with a few goats.

I followed the ridge line which started to descend into Becora, with good views.

There was a clear path but it took me to people’s houses, half a dozen of which I basically had to walk through in order to reach with some relief a road.

From here it was a flat but hot walk past the Becora bus station, and along by the dry river bed to complete the loop.
